iPhone may soon stop working on indian mobile networks

Yes, you read it correct.

The iPhone may soon stop working on Indian mobile networks .The dead heat among Apple and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has been on for some months. While the regulator needs Apple to install a DND app to account spam calls, Apple declines to do so to safeguard privacy to its consumers. However, a new mandate may force the Cupertino-based company to fulfill or risk losing its Indian market.

On Thursday, July 19, TRAI introduced an innovative regulation mandating that all mobile phones to come with an application to permit subscribers to report unwanted/spam calls and messages. TRAI has given enterprises six months to obey, with warnings of serious consequences like iPhone may soon stop working on Indian mobile networks

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has already introduced a DND app for Android in the year 2017 that would do the work. However, Apple declined and rejected to permit the app on the App Store, mentioning its privacy policy. The firm has never permitted third-party applications to recite a user’s call log and messages, and they refused to make exclusion for India.

The order states:

Every access provider shall ensure, within six months’ time that all smart-phone handsets registered on its network support the consents required for the operations of such apps. Provided that where such devices do not authorize functioning of such apps as arranged in regulations… access providers (mobile operators) shall, on the order or direction of the (telecom) authority, de-recognize such devices from their telecom networks.

Simplifying the issue, if Apple doesn’t give the permission install an app to read and report “pesky” calls, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) can force mobile operators to force the device off the network, meaning they will just won’t work.

Last month, Apple is said to have filed an request to build and install its own app that would purpose similar to TRAI’s DND app. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is yet to accept the idea. Still the air is unclear and iPhone may soon stop working on Indian mobile networks.

The DND App

The DND app involves consent to read a user’s call log and incoming messages so that they can report, and TRAI can track promotional and spam messages/calls. Google has complied with the order, but Apple has several reservations since it indifferently refuses access to certain data.
